As you hit the road to enjoy your summer vacation plans over the next few months, please remember to drive safely and avoid distracted driving. Respect our hard working crews while they are out on our busy roadways by slowing down and adhering to the posted speed limits within all construction zones. We are all responsible for everyone’s safety on the roads.

Starting May 15, Cone Zone returns for another summer as the province is chock full of construction projects across this beautiful province.

Working on the highways – whether it is as an equipment operator, first responder, flag person or road maintenance staff – is an incredibly dangerous job. We know everyone has places to be, but we are kindly asking that when you are out driving this summer, to slow down and drive cautiously.

Between 2012 and 2021, 12 roadside workers were killed and 221 were injured and missed time from work because of being struck by a motor vehicle. The risks to roadside workers are more prevalent in the summer months as roadside work increases and traffic levels typically rise.

The Work Zone Safety Alliance is launching the 13th annual Cone Zone campaign to raise awareness of the risk workers face of being struck by a vehicle at roadside work zones. The campaign reminds employers, workers, and members of the public to play their part to help prevent deaths and injuries of roadside workers in B.C.

Let us work together to help ensure all workers return home safe to their families.
