Dawson Group is always going to encourage our employees to find new opportunities for our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to support. This past summer, one employee found an event he was passionate about and Dawson gladly provided support.

Daniel Fernandez (Information Systems Analyst with Dawson Group), submitted an inquiry about the Tapestry Festival, a multicultural celebration in Kamloops aimed at eliminating racism and developing a more inclusive atmosphere locally.

“I heard that last year’s event was a lot of fun and it was a great way to bring the community together. I thought it would be a good opportunity for our company to support and celebrate Kamloops’ growing diversity,” said Fernandez.

The Tapestry Festival supports the guidelines of our CSR policy: it is run by a non-profit organization, it factors in many community groups, it highlights human welfare and different cultures.

With that knowledge, Dawson Group decided to support the event financially, sent volunteers and a tent for the event’s usage.

“I loved it and thought it was great! I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but there were lots of people there and I learned a lot about many different cultures and their traditions. I also got to enjoy some delicious food as well,” said Fernandez. “If you have never been, I would highly recommend checking out this event next year.”

The Tapestry Festival, which took place on Sept. 16 during our United Way campaign, featured entertainment, food and exhibitions from cultures all around the world. Dawson Group’s tent was also used to provide shade for the international Lego station.
